The inspiration behind Vanille Caviar comes from two deeply personal memories shared by David Benedek and perfumer Alexandra Carlin. The idea was born from their separate trips to Madagascar’s vanilla plantations. They were captivated by the moment when the pod opened and revealed its black seeds, the “caviar” of vanilla, a sensual, dense, glowing texture that inspired the entire fragrance. Alexandra also connected this vision to the Outrenoir paintings of Pierre Soulages, where black becomes a source of light rather than darkness.

Olfactory Notes

Vanille Caviar begins with a striking contrast: the vibrant greenness of blackcurrant buds, the cool spiciness of cardamom, and the herbal leathery notes of calamus create an invigorating, almost physical tension. As the fragrance settles, it transitions into a rich, salty-mineral accord of "vanilla caviar," intertwined with cocoa and osmanthus, reminiscent of the moment when a pod is split open, revealing its glossy seeds. The drydown deepens, becoming more intimate, as vanilla absolute, Peru balsam, and labdanum blend together to create a warm, amber-like glow, evoking the sensation of sun-dried pods, textured woods
